Segment A includes a total of 12 miles of 42-inch diameter raw water pipeline, with 8.5 miles of pipeline within Thornton and the remainder in Adams County. Segment A of the project is generally located from 168th Avenue and Quebec Street to 88th Avenue and Colorado Boulevard where a connection will be made to the existing pipelines that deliver water to Thornton’s Wes Brown Water Treatment Plant (WBWTP).
The project includes two primary pipeline phases and additional work near the WBWTP.
- The Phase I pipeline starts at the intersection of E 168th Avenue and Quebec Street and continues south essentially along Quebec Street to E 120th Avenue.
- 9486 linear feet of pipe has been installed on the north end of Phase I.
- The contractor is actively tunneling under 160th Avenue (Highway 7) and installing pipe north of E-470.
- Work in the upcoming months includes pipe installation in Quebec Street north of E 120th Avenue.
- The Phase II pipeline starts at the end of Phase I, just west of the intersection at 120th Ave and Quebec Street and continues south to the WBWTP near E 88th Avenue and Colorado Boulevard.
- Construction activity extends from 100th Avenue toward 88th Avenue, in open areas east of Riverdale Road.
- Pre-tunneling activities are ongoing at Old Riverdale Road.
- Pipe installation is active near the West Spratt Platte Reservoir and spans across a portion of the Owls Den Disc Golf Course in the Pelican Ponds open space areas. The disc course has been modified to remain open.
- Work in upcoming months includes tunnel crossings at 104th Avenue, McKay Road, and 120th Avenue.
